Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui bagaimana karya puisi Benjamin Zephaniah menggambarkan masalah rasisme dan kemanusiaan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif dengan menggunakan semiotika oleh Roland Barthes karena teori ini adalah yang paling cocok untuk menganalisis penelitian ini. Dalam rangka untuk mencari masalah rasisme dan kemanusiaan dalam karya puisi Benjamin Zephaniah, penulis menggunakan metode denotatif dan konotatif yang disarankan oleh Roland Barthes, penulis menggunakan tabel denotatif dan konotatif untuk menganalisis setiap bait, klausa, dan kalimat yang menunjukkan rasisme dan kemanusiaan dalam puisi tersebut. Analisis menggunakan teori semiotik yang berkaitan dengan topik. Topik dari penelitian ini adalah lima dari karya puisi yang terpilih yaitu Industri Race Industry, Save Our Sons, White Comedy, We Refugee, and What Stephen Lawrence has Taught Us. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kelima puisi yang dipilih menggambarkan masalah rasisme dan kemanusiaan dalam puisi Benjamin Zephaniah. Kebanyakan puisi yang menggambarkan rasisme adalah Race industry karena puisi ini bercerita tentang buruh sebagai orang-orang hitam yang selalu ditindas dan koloni sebagai orang-orang kulit putih yang memiliki kekuatan untuk memberikan perintah dan kontrol dalam setiap situasi. Masalah rasisme dan kemanusiaan dalam puisi Benjamin Zefanya melalui kata-kata ‘We’ ‘I’ ‘They’ ‘Fascist and ‘Druggist’ ‘Refugee’ ‘Race’ ‘White’ ‘Black’ dan ‘Coconut’. The purpose of this study is to find out how Benjamin Zephaniah’s portrayed the racism and humanity in. It uses descriptive analytical method using semiotics of Roland Barthes because this theory is the most suitable to analyze this study. In order to find whether those Benjamin Zephaniah’s poems portray the racism and humanity issues, the writer uses denotative and connotative sign which suggested by Roland Barthes, the write use the denotative and connotative table to analyze the stanza, clause, and sentences which indicate the racism and humanity in the poem. The analyses use a semiotic theory related to the topic. The corpuses of this research are five selected poems these are Race Industry, Save Our Sons, White Comedy, We Refugee, and What Stephen Lawrence has Taught Us. The result of this thesis shows that those five selected poems portrayed the racism and humanity issues in Benjamin Zephaniah’s poems. Most poems that portrayed racism is The Race Industry because this poem tells about the labors who are the black people and the colony who are the white people which have power to give an order and control in every situation.
