Abstract

Tujuan dari skripsi ini adalah untuk menginvestigasi perkembangan identitas homoselsual dari karakter utama dalam novel Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe. Study ini juga bertujuan untuk menganalisis reaksi keluarga terhadap orientasi seksual karakter utama. Sumber data dari skripsi ini adalah novel Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of Universe dari Benjamin Alire Saenz yang terbitkan pada tahun 2012. Metode penelitian dari studi ini ialah studi deskriptif analisis dengan menggunakan model perkembangan identitas homoseksual dari Richard Troiden untuk menganalisis narasi dan dialog yang mengidentifikasikan orientasi seksual dari karakter utama. Hasil dari skripsi ini menunjukkan bahwa kedua karakter utama mengubah orientasi seksualnya dari heteroseksual menjadi homoseksual. Ari dan Dante juga mengalami perkembangan identitas homoseksualnya berbeda – beda. Kedua keluarga menerima dan mendukung orientasi seksual anak mereka The purpose of this study is to investigate the homosexual identity development of the main characters in the Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe novel. This study also aims to analyze the family reaction to the main characters’ sexual orientation. The data source of this study is Aristotle and Dante Discover The Secrets of Universe novel by Benjamin Alire Saenz that was published in 2012. The method of this study is descriptive analytical study by using Richard Troiden’s homosexual identity development model in analyzing the narration and dialogue indicated the sexual orientation of the main characters. The result of the study shows that both the main characters Ari and Dante changed their sexual orientation from straight to queer. Ari and Dante also have different experiences to their homosexual identity development. Both of their parents accept and support their sexual orientation.
