Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan nilai budaya dan fungsi yang terdapat pada Cap Go Meh. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode etnografi. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada bulan Januari-Februari 2017 yang bertempat di Vihara Dhanagun Bogor yaitu di Jl Suryakencana no 1 Bogor Tengah. Teknik pengumpulan data pada penelitian ini adalah dengan observasi atau penelitian lapangan, wawancara, dan dokumentasi untuk mendapatkan tentang nilai budaya yang dikemukakan oleh Koentjaraningrat yaitu bahasa, sistem pengetahuan, sistem religi, sistem mata pencaharian, sistem organisasi, teknologi dan kesenian. Namun, pada saat penelitian, nilai budaya dari Koenjaraningrat tidak semuanya ditemukan saat penelitian, yaitu sistem teknologi, karena sebagian besar masyarakat Bogor sudah mulai mengikuti perkembangan zaman ke yang lebih modern. Fungsi yang dikemukakan oleh William R. Bascom yaitu sebagai media hiburan, sebagai alat pengesahan dan pranata-pranata dan lembaga-lembaga kebudayaan, sebagai pendidikan anak, sebagai pemaksa dan pengawas agar norma-norma masyarakat akan selalu dipatuhi anggota kolektifnya. Namun, ada beberapa fungsi lain yang ditemukan peneliti pada saat penelitian, yaitu fungsi untuk silaturahmi dan fungsi untuk memperkenalkan tradisi Cap Go Meh kepada masyarakat lokal. The purpose of this research is to describe the cultural values and the functions that found in the Cap Go Meh tradition. The method used inthis study is ethnography. This research was conducted from January until February 2017 at Dhanagun Temple Bogor on Jl. Suryakencana No.1. Middle region of Bogor. The methods that used to collect the data are observation or field research, interview, and documentation to fine the cultural values of Cap Go Meh according to Koentjaraningrat, which consist of language, knowledge system, religious system, source of income system, organizational system, technology, and arts. However, the only cultural value that found is technology system because most of the Bogor citizen already applies a modern lifestyle that relies on technology. The functions of Cap Go Meh that found in this research according ti William R. Bascom are as entertainment, as means or tools of approval or ratification and cultural regulation and organization, as children education, and as means of applying social pressure and social control that so that the norms of society will always be abided by the members. The other functions that also found in this research are: as a function to strengthen the bond and as a function to introduce and promote the Cap Go Meh tradition to local society
