Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh pemahaman yang mendalam mengenai nilai humaniste dalam novel Terre des Hommes karya Antoine de Saint�Exupéry. Kategori nilai humaniste dalam penelitian ini bertumpu pada tiga konsep dasar humanisme yang berlandaskan nilai-nilai antara lain nilai kecerdasan menurut Mathiex, nilai kehormatan menurut Seth dan nilai solidaritas menurut Dumont. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan pendekatan strukturalisme. Analisis dilakukan dengan memaparkan unsur-unsur intrinsik karya sastra yaitu alur, tokoh dan latar. Tahap berikutnya adalah mengidentifikasi dan menginterpretasikan data-data nilai humaniste dalam bentuk kutipan kalimat-kalimat dalam sumber data sesuai dengan teori kategori nilai-nilai humanis yakni kecerdasan, kehormatan dan solidaritas. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 33 kutipan penuturan yang mencerminkan nilai humaniste. Dari ketiga puluh tiga data tersebut, secara rinci ditemukan sebanyak 9 data yang memuat nilai kecerdasan, 11 data yang memuat nilai kehormatan dan 13 data yang memuat nilai solidaritas. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian di atas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa novel Terre des Hommes merepresentasikan nilai-nilai humanistes. Nilai-nilai tersebut didominasi oleh tokoh utama yakni Antoine yang digambarkan sebagai seorang humanis yang menjunjung tinggi kemanusiaan, berani, cerdas, dan memiliki jiwa solidaritas. Kategori nilai solidaritas memiliki jumlah terbanyak yang terdapat pada penuturan para tokoh utama terkait hal pertemanan, kebersamaan dan kepedulian antarsesama. Sementara nilai kehormatan ditemukan pada kutipan kalimat tokoh-tokoh utama dengan dedikasi tinggi dan kebanggaan terhadap profesi, harga diri, dan pantang menyerah. Kategori terakhir yaitu nilai kecerdasan ditunjukkan dengan kapasitas Antoine dalam menjalankan pekerjaannya dan pemikirannya akan pesawat terbang. This research intends to gain insight on humanist values taken from the novel Terre des Hommes by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. The category of humanist values in this study is focused on three basic concepts of humanism according to diversity values inside including intellectual value stated by Mathiex, value of respect stated by Seth and solidarity value stated by Dumont. The research method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative method with structuralism approach. Analysis is accomplished by describing intrinsic elements of literary prose (novel) such as plot, characters and setting. The next step is identifying and interpreting the data of humanist values in the form of the phrases found in the novel referred to the theories of the category of humanist values comprise intellectuality, honor and solidarity. The result of this study showed that in the novel, there are 33 phrases that reflect humanist values. Among 33 data that have been found, specifically there are 9 data contain intellectual value, 11 data indicate the value of respect and 13 data comprehend solidarity value. In conclusion, based on the result mentioned above, the novel Terre des Hommes represents the humanist values as seen in the principle of humanism. The values are dominants as showed by principal character Antoine, who has been described as a humanist that upholds humanity, bravery, intelligence, and strongly considers as a loyal person. Category of solidarity is the most dominant’s value as indicated in the discourse of the principal characters related to friendship, togetherness and care each other. Meanwhile the honor is referred to the phrases of most characters in the novel by the presence of high dedication and pride to profession, self-esteem, and never gives up. The final category is intellectuality as seen by the remarkable capacity of Antoine in determining his profession as a pilot and all his reflections about plane.
