Abstract

Siswa memiliki strategi yang berbeda terutama dalam pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara. Strategi pembelajaran bahasa mendorong kontrol diri dengan memberikan inisiatif peserta didik dan kepercayaan diri dalam menggunakan bahasa baru di luar kelas. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis fokus mencari strategi pembelajaran bahasa apa yang digunakan oleh siswa Britzone English Club dalam kegiatan berbicara mereka. Data dalam penelitian ini dikumpulkan melalui observasi kelas dan wawancara. Ada sekitar 10 sampai 20 siswa di Britzone yang menjadi objek penelitian berumur 20 - 30 tahun. Penelitian ini dilakukan selama sekitar sepuluh bulan, dari April 2016 sampai Januari 2017. Berdasarkan temuan, data menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan strategi pembelajaran bahasa yang digunakan siswa di dalam presentase yaitu memori (4%), kognitif (14%), kompensasi (13%), metakognitif (30%), afektif (13%), dan sosial (26%). Studi ini mengemukakan bahwa strategi pembelajaran yang dominan digunakan oleh siswa Britzone English Club dalam kegiatan berbicara mereka adalah strategi metakognitif. Strategi metakognitif membantu siswa untuk mengelola proses belajar berbicara. Hal ini sering digunakan oleh siswa dalam belajar berbicara sehingga dapat mempengaruhi kemampuan berbicara siswa. Students have different strategies especially in learning speaking skill. Language learning strategies encourage in self-control by giving learners initiative and confidence in using new language outside the classroom. In this study, the writer focuses on finding out what language learning strategies used by Britzone English Club students in their speaking activities. The data were collected through classroom observation and interview. The objects of this study are students in Britzone age 20 – 30 years old. This study was conducted for about ten months, from April 2016 to January 2017. Based on findings, the data showed the use of language learning strategies by students are memory (4%), cognitive (14%), compensation (13%), metacognitive (30%), affective (13%), and social (26%). This study found that the dominance learning strategies which were used by Britzone English Club students in their speaking activities is metacognitive strategies. Metacognitive strategies help students to manage the learning speaking process. It is often used by students in learning speaking so that can influence students’ speaking skill.
