Abstract

Penelitian ini tentang kesantunan pragmatis dari video pidato Antonio Guterres tentang perempuan dan kekuatannya di The New School pada tahun 2020. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan strategi kesantunan yang digunakan oleh Antonio Guterres dan mendeskripsikan faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi pemilihan strategi kesantunan yang digunakan dalam pidatonya. Data penelitian ini diambil dari tuturan Antonio Guterres dalam pidatonya yang ditranskripsikan menjadi data tertulis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif-kualitatif dan dianalisis menggunakan teori strategi kesantunan yang dikemukakan oleh Brown dan Levinson (1987). Dari analisis, penulis menemukan empat jenis strategi kesantunan yaitu bald-on record, positive politeness, negative politeness, dan off-record dalam pidato Antonio Guterres. Positive politeness ditemukan sebagai strategi yang paling sering digunakan dalam pidato ini dengan 28 ucapan, diikuti oleh strategi bald-on record dengan 12 ucapan, strategi off-record dengan 11 ucapan, dan strategi yang paling jarang digunakan adalah negative politeness dengan hanya 6 ucapan. Oleh karena itu, dalam pidatonya, Antonio Guterres lebih banyak menggunakan strategi positive politeness karena strategi ini bertujuan untuk menghindari memberikan penekanan terhadap wajah positif pendengar dengan menonjolkan keramahan dan juga yang paling penting strategi ini memungkinkan pembicara untuk memiliki hubungan dekat dengan audiens. This study is on pragmatic politeness of a speech video from Antonio Guterres' Women and Power at the New School on 2020. It is aimed at describing the politeness strategies used by Antonio Guterres and describing the factors influencing the choice of politeness strategies used in his speech. The data were taken from the utterances by Antonio Guterres in his speech which transcribed into written data. This study applied a descriptive-qualitative research and analyzed by the theory of politeness strategies proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987). From the analysis, the writer found the four types of politeness strategies which are bald-on record, positive politess, negative politess, and off-record strategy in Antonio Guterres' speech. Positive politess turns as the most frequent strategy used in this speech with 28 utterances, followed by bald-on record strategy with 12 utterances, off-record strategy with 11 utterances, and the less used strategy is negative politeness with only 6 utterances. Therefore, in his speech, Antonio Guterres mostly used positive politeness strategy because this strategy is intended to avoid giving offense to the hearer‘s positive face by highlighting friendliness and also allows the speaker to have a close relationship with the audience in the first place.
