Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kompetensi kolokasi mahasiswa tahun ketiga Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga bertujuan untuk mengetahui tipe kolokasi yang dianggap lebih sulit diantara dua tipe kolokasi yang ada. Penelitian ini menggunakan survey sebagai metode penelitian dan tes kolokasi yang diadaptasi dari jurnal TESL sebagai instrumen penelitian. Hasil survey menunjukkan bahwa dari 124 mahasiswa yang diuji, kompetensi kolokasi dari 64.52 % diantaranya tergolong kurang, 8.23 % cukup, 5.65 % baik, dan 1.61 % tergolong sangat baik. Data dari survey juga menunjukkan bahwa persentase rata-rata jawaban benar untuk kolokasi gramatikal adalah 46.37 % dan kolokasi leksikal 37.66 %. Data ini mengindikasikan bahwa kolokasi leksikal lebih sulit dibandingkan dengan kolokasi gramatikal. ***** This study aims at investigating the collocational competence of the third year students of the English Department at State University of Jakarta. Besides, this study also aims at finding which type of collocation that the students mostly get difficulties with. This study employs survey as the research methodology and uses collocation test adopted from TESL journal as the instrument to collect the data. The result of the survey shows that among 124 test-takers, 64.52 % collocational competence of students are considered poor, 28.23 % are considered fair, 5.65 % are considered good, and only 1.61 % are considered very good. The data also shows that the mean percentage of correct answers for grammatical collocations is 46.73 and for lexical collocations is 37.66. It indicates that the comprehension of lexical collocations proved to be more difficult than grammatical collocations.
