Abstract

Munculnya alat pengolah kata membantu siswa dalam mengatasi kesulitan menulis akademik. Namun, penelitian lain menyarankan agar fokus pada kesulitan menulis akademik siswa dalam masalah bahasa daripada bagaimana menyelesaikannya menggunakan pengolah kata. Akibatnya, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penggunaan alat pengolah kata untuk mengatasi siswa pendidikan kejuruan teknik mesin yang berjuang dengan penulisan akademik. Sebagai desain penelitian, digunakan survei kualitatif dengan analisis deskriptif. Penulisan artikel mahasiswa dan 40 mahasiswa pendidikan vokasi teknik mesin semester dua dari bulan Mei sampai Juli mengikuti kursus bahasa Inggris di salah satu universitas di Jakarta dan dijadikan sebagai sumber data. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menganalisis penulisan artikel siswa dan angket online, yang kemudian dianalisis dan diinterpretasikan secara deskriptif. Hasil dari analisis penulisan artikel siswa mengidentifikasi kesulitan mereka dari kesalahan bahasa yang muncul dalam teks mereka. Kuesioner dibagi menjadi dua bagian, BAGIAN A dan BAGIAN B, yang jumlahnya 28 item yang dibagikan kepada 40 siswa menggunakan Google Forms. Ditemukan bahwa kelas kata adalah yang paling sulit, diikuti oleh kesalahan kata, tata bahasa, dan format kata yang ada di kelas. Terungkap bahwa menggunakan pengolah kata dapat sangat membantu mereka dalam mengatasi area pemformatan kata, diikuti oleh kesalahan kata, tata bahasa, dan kelas kata. Oleh karena itu, meskipun sering menggunakan alat pengolah kata, siswa tidak boleh mengabaikan membaca sambil menulis secara akademis dengan alat ini karena tidak memastikan bahwa itu akan membantu mereka 100% sepanjang waktu. However, other studies suggested that it focused on students' academic writing difficulties in language problems rather than how to solve them using a word processor. As a result, this research aims to discover the employment of word processor tools overcome mechanical engineering vocational education students who struggle with academic writing. As the study design, a qualitative survey with descriptive analysis was employed. Students' article writing and 40 second-semester mechanical engineering vocational education students from May until July enrolled in an English college course at one of the universities in Jakarta and served as data sources. Data were collected by analyzing students' article writing and an online questionnaire, which was then analyzed and interpreted descriptively. The results from students’ article writing analysis identified their difficulties from the language faults that appear in their text. The questionnaire was divided into two parts, PART A and PART B, which total of 28 items that were distributed to 40 students using Google Forms. It was discovered that word class was the most difficult, followed by word mistakes, grammar, and word format exist in the classroom. It was revealed that employing a word processor could aid them the most in overcoming word formatting areas, followed by word mistakes, grammar, and word classes. Hence, despite the frequent use of word processing tools, students should not neglect reading while writing academically with this tool because it does not ensure that it would help them 100% of the time.
