Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan perjuangan perusahaan asuransi AJB Bumiputera 1912 tahun 1942-1955 yang penuh dengan gejolak politik dan ekonomi, hingga nanti AJB Bumiputera 1912 mampu mempertahankan perusahaan dengan cara melalui inovasi dan juga strategi ekonomi. Metode yang digunakan dalam skripsi ini adalah metode historis, yang merupakan penelitian sejarah yang bersifat deskriptif naratif. Metode ini melibatkan beberapa tahapan penelitian sejarah yang dilakukan seperti heuristik (penelitian sumber), verifikasi (kritik sumber), interpretasi (analisis sumber), dan historiografi (penulisan sejarah). Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa pembentukan AJB Bumiputera 1912 didirikan dengan tujuan memberikan perlindungan finansial kepada individu terhadap risiko bila terjadi bencana. Pada masa pendudukan Jepang, AJB Bumiputera 1912 mengalami kerugian uang kas dan tidak mampu membayar gaji pegawai perusahaan. Pada akhir tahun 1945, Bumiputera 1912 juga mengalami kerugian yang sangat signifikan seperti melakukan penutupan kantor karena perang revolusi fisik dan kerugian uang kas karena nasabah tidak membayar iuran yang berakibat fungsi dari perusahaan asuransi tersebut tidak maksimal. Pada tahun 1955, untuk tetap dapat melindungi nasabahnya akhirnya perusahaan difungsikan kembali dan mulai melakukan modernisasi seperti perubahan nama perusahaan, perubahan struktur perusahaan, dan peningkatan profesionalisme. Kata Kunci: Asuransi, Modernisasi, Bumiputera This study aims to describe the struggle of the insurance company AJB Bumiputera 1912 in 1942-1955 which was full of political and economic turmoil, until AJB Bumiputera 1912 was able to maintain the company through innovation and economic strategy. The method used in this thesis is the historical method, which is historical research that is descriptive narrative in nature. This method involves several stages of historical research such as heuristics (source research), verification (source criticism), interpretation (source analysis), and historiography (historical writing). The results of the study show that the formation of AJB Bumiputera 1912 was established with the aim of providing financial protection to individuals in the event of a disaster risk. During the Japanese occupation, AJB Bumiputera 1912 experienced cash losses and was unable to pay company employees' salaries. At the end of 1945, Bumiputera 1912 also experienced very significant losses such as opening an office due to the physical revolutionary war and cash losses because customers did not pay dues which resulted in the function of the insurance company not being optimal. In 1955, in order to be able to protect its customers, the company finally functioned again and carried out modernizations such as changing the company name, changing the company structure, and increasing professionalism.
