Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis Perkembangan Trem Listrik di Batavia Tahun 1930 hingga 1959. Trem merupakan kendaraan yang mirip dengan kereta yang dijalankan oleh lokomotif tenaga listrik atau uap yang biasanya digunakan sebagai angkutan penumpang dalam kota. Trem adalah salah satu moda transportasi yang sangat diandalkan oleh penduduk Batavia sehingga dalam perkembangannya mengalami pasang surut setelah berada di tiga era pemerintahan yang berbeda, yaitu Belanda, Jepang, dan Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan prosedur penelitian sejarah yang terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu heuristik, kritik, interpretasi, dan penulisan sejarah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggabungan kedua perusahaan trem di Batavia pada tahun 1930 merupakan awal permulaan kemajuan trem listrik di bawah naungan manajemen yang sama. Berbagai perubahan kebijakan yang terjadi di tiga era pemerintahan tersebut menciptakan sistem sosial di masyarakat secara tidak langsung. Perkembangan trem listrik terus berlanjut hingga pada masa pemerintah Soekarno. Soekarno memutuskan untuk menghapus trem listrik dari jalanan Jakarta karena dianggap usang dan tidak modern, sehingga trem harus berhenti beroperasi pada tahun 1959. ***** This study aims to analyze the development of electric trams in Batavia from 1930 to 1959. A tram is a vehicle similar to a train run by an electric or steam locomotive that is usually used as passenger transport within a city. Tram is one of the modes of transportation that is highly relied upon by the people of Batavia so that in its development experienced ups and downs after being in three different eras of government, namely the Netherlands, Japan, and Indonesia. This study uses a historical research procedure consisting of four stages, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historical writing. The results showed that the merger of the two tram companies in Batavia in 1930 was the beginning of the progress of electric trams under the same management. Various policy changes that occurred in the three eras of government created social systems in the community indirectly. The development of electric trams continued until the time of the Sukarno government. Sukarno decided to remove electric trams from the streets of Jakarta because they were considered obsolete and not modern, so the trams had to stop operating in 1959.
