Abstract

***** In the current era of technological advancement, the use of smartphones has increased and is very prevalent among students. However, smartphone usage among learners has not been followed by good digital literacy. This study aims to investigate the effect of augmented reality (AR)-assisted mobile learning on learners' digital literacy on the topic of basic laws of chemistry. Quantitative method with quasi-experimental pretest-posttest non-equivalent group design was used in this study. Tenth grade students in one public high school in Bekasi City was used as the population with two classes randomly selected as experimental and control groups. The number of participants in this study was 66 students (30 male and 36 female). The digital literacy questionnaire was used in this study to assess the learners' digital literacy level. The learning activities in this study were different with the experimental group using AR-assisted mobile learning, while the control group did not use AR-assisted mobile learning. The hypothesis of this study is that the digital literacy of students between experimental and control group has a significant difference. Independent sample t-test and paired sample t-test were used for data analysis. Based on the Independent sample t-test on the posttest score between the experimental and control group, there was no significant difference. Then, paired sample t-test shows that the digital literacy score of experimental group students has increased from pretest to posttest, but not significantly. Although the increase was not significant, AR has the potential to improve learners' digital literacy.
