Abstract

Rumput laut (seaweed) merupakan hasil laut non-ikan yang memiliki posisi penting di Indonesia. Jenis Euchuema cottonii merupakan spesies yang paling banyak tumbuh di Indonesia. Kandungan utama yang dimiliki oleh rumput laut Euchuema cottonii antara lain anti-oksidan, anti-inflamasi, dan anti-bakteri. Rumput laut Euchuema cottonii perlu melalui proses pengeringan serta ekstraksi menjadi karagenan sebelum bisa diolah menjadi produk kosmetika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui potensi rumput laut Euchuema cottonii dalam Industri Kosmetika, cara mengolah rumput laut Euchuema cottonii untuk bahan baku produk kosmetika, mengetahui jenis sediaan kosmetik yang dapat dihasilkan dari rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii, serta mengetahui perilaku masyarakat terhadap kosmetika dengan bahan baku rumput laut Euchuema cottonii. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif yang tidak bermaksud melakukan perhitungan. Data diperoleh melalui proses observasi, wawancara, dan studi pustaka dengan subjek penelitian yaitu 1 Industri Kosmetik Rumput Laut, 1 Ahli Rumput Laut, dan 5 masyarakat pengguna kosmetika perawatan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa rumput laut Eucheuma cottonii memiliki potensi yang besar di Industri Kosmetika karena dapat diolah menjadi berbagai jenis sediaan kosmetik, seperti krim pelembab wajah, lip balm, masker wajah, dan lain-lain. Hanya saja berbagai pihak harus bekerja sama untuk memberikan edukasi kepada masyarakat luas. ***** Seaweed is a non-fish marine product that has an important position in Indonesia. Euchuema cottonii is the most widely grown species in Indonesia. The main ingredients of Euchuema cottonii seaweed include anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti- bacterial. Euchuema cottonii seaweed needs to go through a drying process and extraction into carrageenan before it can be processed into cosmetic products. This study aims to determine the potential of Euchuema cottonii seaweed in the Cosmetics Industry, how to process Euchuema cottonii seaweed for raw materials for cosmetic products, determine the types of cosmetic preparations that can be produced from Eucheuma cottonii seaweed, and determine public behaviour towards cosmetics with Euchuema cottonii seaweed raw materials. This research uses a qualitative descriptive method that does not intend to perform calculations. Data were obtained through observation, interview, and literature study with the research subjects, namely 1 Seaweed Cosmetics Industry, 1 Seaweed Expert, and 5 people who use cosmetics care. The results of this study show that Eucheuma cottonii seaweed has great potential in the Cosmetics Industry because it can be processed into various types of cosmetic products, such as facial moisturising creams, lip balms, face masks, and others. It's just that various stakeholders must work together to provide education to the wider community.
