Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui latar belakang perluasan wilayah Kota Batavia (Sekarang menjadi Kota Jakarta) dari Kota Tua hingga Weltevreden. Perluasan dimulai dengan munculnya kebijakan pemerintah dan keterlibatan oleh pihak swasta dalam mengatur arah perluasan kota dari masa Hindia Belanda sampai dengan datangnya pemerintahan Jepang di Indonesia pada tahun 1942. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode sejarah atau historis yang disajikan dalam bentuk deskriptif naratif. Adapun pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini didapat dari arsip, buku, jurnal, dan skripsi yang berkaitan dengan topik penelitian. Hasil dari penelitian skripsi ini membahas tentang sejarah yang terjadi pada masa pemerintahan Hindia Belanda, yakni dengan mencakup wilayah Batavia dari Kota Tua menuju Weltevreden pada masa pemerintahan Hindia Belanda. Wilayah perkotaan Batavia (Jakarta) mengalami perubahan dramatis seiring dengan perluasan wilayah pada masa Hindia Belanda yaitu dari Kota Tua hingga Weltevreden. Kota Tua merupakan pusat perdagangan dan administrasi Perusahaan Hindia Timur Belanda (VOC) ketika Belanda pertama kali didirikan, juga sebagai pusat pemerintahan yang penting karena posisinya yang menguntungkan dan pertahanannya yang kuat. Namun terjadi migrasi massal dari para warga ke lingkungan Weltevreden yang lebih besar dan higienis yang disebabkan oleh kondisi Kota Tua yang sudah padat dan tercemar. Pusat administratif baru yaitu Weltevreden, dibangun dengan mencerminkan gaya arsitektur khas Eropa serta konsep perencanaan kota dengan dibentuknya organisasi terhadap perencanaan wilayah yang mengatur pembangunan permukiman, sarana, dan infrastruktur kota. Transisi dari Kota Tua ke Weltevreden juga menyoroti perkembangan wilayah kota tersebut menjadi dinamis dengan adanya pengaruh kolonial terhadap kota tersebut. Kata Kunci: Batavia, Kota Tua, Perkembangan, Perluasan, Weltevreden. ***** This research aims to find out the background of the expansion of Batavia City (now Jakarta) from Kota Tua to Weltevreden. The expansion began with the emergence of government policies and involvement by the private sector which controls the direction of urban expansion from the Dutch East Indies period until the arrival of the Japanese government in Indonesia in 1942. The method used is the historical method which is presented in descriptive narrative form. The data collection in this research is obtained from archives, books, journals, and theses related to the research topic. The result of this research discusses the history that occurred during the Dutch East Indies rule, namely by covering the Batavia area from Kota Tua to Weltevreden during the Dutch East Indies rule. The urban area of Batavia (Jakarta) underwent dramatic changes along with the expansion of territory during the Dutch East Indies period, from Kota Tua to Weltevreden. Kota Tua was the centre of trade and administration of the Dutch East India Company (VOC) when it was first established by the Dutch, as well as an important centre of government due to its advantageous position and strong defences. However, there was a mass migration of residents to the larger and more hygienic Weltevreden neighbourhood due to an already congested and polluted conditions of Kota Tua area. The new administrative centre, Weltevreden, was built to reflect a typical European architectural styles and urban planning concepts with the establishment of a regional planning organisation that regulated the development of the city's settlements, facilities and infrastructure. The transition from the Old Town to Weltevreden also highlights the dynamic development of the area with the colonial influence on the city.
