Abstract
Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif menggunakan analisis semiotika dengan melalui pengamatan secara menyeluruh terhadap objek penelitian yakni setiap scene Film Sunyi. Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan yakni mengidentifikasi sejumlah gambar dan suara pada setiap shot dan scene yang didalamnya terdapat unsur tanda yang menggambarkan budaya senioritas di dunia pendidikan. Data yang terkumpul kemudian di analisis dengan menggunakan model semiotika Roland Barthes dengan tiga tahap analisis yakni deskripsi makna denotatif, identifikasi sistem hubungan tanda dan makna konotatif, serta analisis mitos. Hasil penelitian dapat dilihat dalam bagian awal, konflik dan akhir film, menunjukan bahwa representasi senioritas terbentuk dalam maskulinitas senior, senoritas sebagai relasi kuasa dan pembatasan tingkah laku junior terhadap senior. Dampak dari budaya senioritas yang ditampilkan pada film tersebut salah satunya adalah dampak negatif yang signifikan yakni adanya gangguan jiwa/psikologis pada korban. Akan tetapi, penulis menyadari bahwa budaya senioritas justru dapat meningkatkan solidaritas di antara siswa dan dapat menjadi proses inisiasi siswa terhadap budaya sekolah. ******************************************** This study used a qualitative method with the semiotic analysis through thorough observation of ‘Sunyi’ film. Data were collected by identifying some images and sounds in each shot and scene in which there are elements of signs that describe the seniority culture in the field of education. Data were then analyzed using Roland Barthes' semiotic model with three stages of analysis covering the description of denotative meaning, identification of the sign relationship system and connotative meaning, and myth analysis. The results of the study could be seen in the beginning, conflict, and end of the film that the representation of seniority was formed in senior masculinity, seniority as a power relation, and the limitation of juniors’ behavior towards seniors. One of the impacts of the seniority culture presented in the film had a significant negative impact, namely mental/psychological disorders on the victim. Indeed, the researcher realizes that the seniority culture can increase solidarity among students and can be a process of student initiation into school culture.
