Abstract
Salah satu varietas Rambutan khas Tangerang, Banten yaitu Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum. ************************************* One of the typical Rambutan varieties of Tangerang, Banten namely Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum. Linn) Parakan variety was used for this research because it has not yet been published. In this study, identified phenolic components, determined total phenolic content and tested the antioxidant activity of rambutan peels of parakan variety. A total of 200 grams of dry powder of rambutan peel of parakan variety was macerated gradually using n-hexane, ethyl acetate and methanol as solvents. The yields of methanol extract and ethyl acetate extract were 36,88% and 8,74%, respectively. Phytochemical test results in parakan rambutan peel positive contain phenolic, alkaloids, flavonoids and steroids. Identification of phenolic groups was carried out by Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), so that the results of GC-MS obtained several dominant phenolic compounds, namely catechol (m/z 110 g.mol-1) and 1,2,3-benzentriol (m/z 126 g.mol-1) from ethyl acetate extract and methanol extract. The results of the total phenolic content of the methanol extract were 34,4%. Then the methanol and ethyl acetate extracts were tested for antioxidant activity using the 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method which was expressed with IC50 values of 8,230 mg/L 9,904 mg/L, respectively. The conclusion of this study is that rambutan peel contains relatively high phenolic components with a very active category of antioxidant activity.
