Abstract
*********************************************************** Gamma-ray radiation causes genotoxicity, which is characterized by the formation of extra-nuclear bodies. It contains defective chromosomes, left behind at anaphase during cell division. The extranuclear body can be called a micronucleus (MN), which indicates that gamma radiation is genotoxic. Radiation can also be caused by interference of cell division and can be used as a biomarker to predict the level of risk to human health. This study aims to analyze the genotoxic and cytotoxic effects of gamma radiation on worker lymphocytes in radiation energy centers using the CBNM Assay. Blood samples from 20 volunteers were collected in heparin tubes and cultured in vitro. The results showed that gamma 2 Gy caused an increase in the number of micronuclei of blood lymphocytes, especially in blood type A and the increase in the number of MN was not related to age. In addition, the NDI value of lymphocytes in human blood after gamma radiation is 1.74 ± 0.1. This value was still in the normal category and not too harmful for human health. It can be concluded that gamma irradiation has no cytostatic effects but has a genotoxic effect on blood lymphocytes in vitro.
