Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis fenomena Mothering dalam hubungan romantis mahasiswa Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), dengan fokus pada interaksi interpersonal yang melatarbelakanginya. Fenomena Mothering didefinisikan sebagai kecenderungan salah satu pihak umumnya perempuan untuk mengambil peran seperti ibu terhadap pasangannya, baik secara emosional maupun praktis. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode wawancara semi-terstruktur dan observasi partisipatif terhadap lima mahasiswa UNJ yang pernah mengalami fenomena ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Mothering dipengaruhi oleh ideologi Good mother budaya tentang perempuan baik, ketidakseimbangan relasi, tekanan sosial, dan minimnya dukungan emosional dari pasangan. Perilaku Mothering berkontribusi pada ketidakseimbangan relasi, beban emosional berlebih, dan pengaburan identitas diri perempuan dalam hubungan.Temuan ini juga relevan sebagai dasar intervensi psikososial dalam lingkup pendidikan tinggi. ******** This research aims to analyze the phenomenon of Mothering in romantic relationships among students at Universitas Negeri Jakarta (UNJ), with a focus on the underlying interpersonal interactions. Mothering refers to the tendency of one partner typically the woman to adopt caregiving roles toward her partner, both emotionally and practically. The study employs a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews and participatory observation with five UNJ students who have experienced this dynamic. Findings reveal that Mothering is shaped by cultural ideologies of the “Good mother ,” relational imbalances, social pressures, and lack of emotional reciprocity. Such behavior leads to emotional overload, relational inequality, and the blurring of self-identity in women. The study underscores the importance of emotional equity and healthy interpersonal communication in fostering empowering and balanced romantic relationships. These findings are also relevant for psychosocial interventions within higher education settings.
