Abstract

***** Critical thinking and collaboration skills are two essential 21st-century competencies urgently needed in education to face future challenges. Strengthening these skills requires not only supportive learning environments, such as a conducive classroom climate, but also the implementation of effective instructional models, one of which is the RADEC learning model. This study aims to examine the effects of the RADEC model and classroom climate conditions on senior high school students’ critical thinking and collaborative skills in the topic of environmental change. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method using a 2×2 factorial design. A total of 132 tenth-grade students were selected through simple random sampling and assigned to experimental and control groups. The hypothesis testing results revealed that: (1) the RADEC model significantly influenced both critical thinking and collaboration skills (p < 0.001); (2) classroom climate also had a significant effect on both skills (p = 0.001); and (3) there was a significant interaction between the RADEC model and classroom climate in influencing the two skills simultaneously (p = 0.023). These findings suggest that implementing the RADEC model within a supportive classroom climate can effectively enhance students’ critical thinking and collaboration skills.
