Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji toponimi air terjun yang terdapat di wilayah Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak melalui pendekatan antropolinguistik. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkap makna, fungsi, dan nilai-nilai budaya yang terkandung dalam penamaan air terjun, serta bagaimana unsur kebahasaan tersebut mencerminkan kehidupan, kepercayaan, dan interaksi masyarakat lokal dengan lingkungannya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa dokumentasi, observasi, dan wawancara terhadap tokoh masyarakat setempat. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa toponimi air terjun di kawasan ini mencerminkan bentuk satuan lingual yang beragam seperti, kata, dan frasa, yang sarat akan makna leksikal dan budaya. Penamaan air terjun sering kali berkaitan dengan kondisi geografis, jenis vegetasi, kepercayaan spiritual, serta aktivitas sosial masyarakat. Dengan demikian, toponimi air terjun di Taman Nasional Gunung Halimun Salak tidak hanya berfungsi sebagai penanda lokasi, tetapi juga sebagai representasi warisan linguistik dan identitas budaya masyarakat Sunda. Kata kunci: toponimi, air terjun, antropolinguistik, Gunung Halimun Salak, masyarakat Sunda ***** This research explores the toponymy of waterfalls (locally known as air terjun) in the Gunung Halimun Salak National Park area through an anthropolinguistic approach. The study aims to reveal the meanings, functions, and cultural values embedded in the naming of these waterfalls, as well as how these linguistic elements reflect the lives, beliefs, and interactions of the local communities with their environment. A qualitative descriptive method was employed, using data collection techniques such as documentation, observation, and interviews with local community figures. The analysis shows that the toponyms of the waterfalls exhibit a variety of linguistic units, including morphemes, words, and phrases, all of which are rich in lexical and cultural meaning. These names often relate to geographical features, vegetation types, spiritual beliefs, and social activities of the community. Thus, the toponymy of waterfalls in Gunung Halimun Salak National Park functions not only as geographic identifiers but also as representations of the linguistic heritage and cultural identity of the Sundanese people.
