Abstract

***** This study aims to describe the implementation of learning organization principles based on the five disciplines proposed by Peter Senge (1990) in a technology startup company, ABERA. The research employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five key managerial informants (CEO, CTO, COO, CPO, and HR), participatory observations, and documentation of team activities. Data were analyzed thematically by referring to the five learning organization disciplines: personal mastery, mental models, shared vision, team learning, and systems thinking. The findings indicate that the learning organization principles were contextually applied within ABERA’s agile work culture. Personal mastery was reflected through self-directed learning among team members, mental models developed through a culture of reflection, and team learning was evident in daily huddles and weekly evaluations. However, the shared vision was not fully participatory, as it was formulated only by the CEO and CTO, although it was still effectively implemented since employees showed strong ownership of the organization’s goals. Meanwhile, systems thinking was demonstrated in decision-making processes that considered inter-unit relationships and cause-effect analysis. This study contributes to the literature on learning organizations in the context of technology startups and offers recommendations to strengthen collective learning across divisions through vision alignment and knowledge management.
