Abstract
Microplastics are plastic particles measuring <1-5 mm that have the potential to accumulate in marine biota, especially high-trophic level predatory fish such as Carcharhinus tjutjot (Bleeker, 1852). This study aims to analyze the abundance of microplastics, identify the type and color of microplastics in the digestive organs, muscles, and gills of C. tjutjot sharks, and analyze the relationship between the weight of the gills, digestive tract, and muscles and the abundance of microplastics in each organ. Isolation of microplastics in the gills, digestive tract, and muscles of 20 C. tjutjot sharks was carried out by drying in an oven, destroying the tissue using a 30% H2O2 solution in a water bath, filtering with Whatman 42 filter paper, and identification using a stereo microscope. Polymer type analysis was carried out using FT-IR and additive analysis using GC-MS. Qualitative data analysis of microplastic abundance was carried out descriptively, while quantitative data were tested for normality using the Shapiro-Wilk test, homogeneity using the Levene test, and the Kruskal-Wallis test. Correlation data analysis was tested using the Spearman Correlation Test. The study identified the highest abundance of microplastics in the gills, followed by the muscles and digestive organs. Fiber type and black color were the most prevalent in C. tjutjot. Correlation analysis showed a significant relationship between mass and microplastic abundance in the digestive organs and muscles.
