Abstract
Proses metalografi merupakan tahapan penting dalam analisis struktur mikro material logam, khususnya pada proses pemolesan spesimen. Permasalahan yang sering terjadi pada mesin poles piringan tunggal (single disc) adalah ketidakstabilan spesimen yang di akibatkan tekanan yang tidak konsisten selama pemolesan, sehingga kualitas permukaan yang dihasilkan kurang optimal. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang dan membangun jig holder sebagai alat bantu pada mesin poles piringan tunggal guna meningkatkan stabilitas spesimen, konsistensi tekanan, dan kualitas hasil pemolesan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah rancang bangun yang meliputi analisis kebutuhan, perancangan desain 3D menggunakan perangkat lunak SolidWorks, simulasi kekuatan struktur menggunakan Finite Element Analysis (FEA), proses fabrikasi, serta pengujian kinerja alat. Simulasi FEA dilakukan dengan variasi pembebanan 5 N, 10 N, dan 15 N untuk menganalisis tegangan von Mises, displacement, dan factor of safety (FOS). Hasil simulasi menunjukkan tegangan maksimum sebesar 0,103 MPa dengan nilai FOS minimum sebesar 10, yang menandakan bahwa desain jig holder berada pada kondisi aman. Pengujian kinerja dilakukan melalui pengukuran kekasaran permukaan (surface roughness) pada spesimen aluminium 6061 dengan variasi pembebanan 50 g , 150 g, dan pemolesan manual sebagai pembanding. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa pembebanan 150 g menghasilkan nilai kekasaran rata-rata terendah sebesar 0,22 μm, diikuti pembebanan 50 g sebesar 0,225 μm, dan pemolesan manual sebesar 0,235 μm. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa jig holder yang dirancang mampu meningkatkan stabilitas spesimen dan menghasilkan kualitas permukaan yang lebih halus serta konsisten dibandingkan pemolesan manual pada proses metalografi. ***** The metallography process is an important stage in the microstructural analysis of metal materials, especially in the specimen polishing process. A common problem in single disc polishing machines is specimen instability caused by inconsistent pressure during polishing, resulting in less than optimal surface quality. This study aims to design and build a jig holder as an auxiliary tool for a single disc polishing machine to improve specimen stability, pressure consistency, and polishing quality. The research method used is design and construction which includes needs analysis, 3D design using SolidWorks software, structural strength simulation using Finite Element Analysis (FEA), fabrication process, and tool performance testing. FEA simulations were carried out with loading variations of 5 N, 10 N, and 15 N to analyze von Mises stress, displacement, and factor of safety (FOS). The simulation results show a maximum stress of 0.103 MPa with a minimum FOS value of 10, which indicates that the jig holder design is in a safe condition. Performance testing was conducted by measuring the surface roughness of 6061 aluminum specimens with varying loads of 50 g, 150 g, and manual polishing as a comparison. The test results showed that the 150 g load produced the lowest average roughness value of 0.22 μm, followed by the 50 g load at 0.225 μm, and the manual polishing at 0.235 μm. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the designed jig holder is able to improve specimen stability and produce smoother and more consistent surface quality compared to manual polishing in the metallographic process.
