Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji sejarah konflik yang dikenal dengan “Konfrontasi” antara Indonesia dan Malaysia yang berlangsung dari 1963-1966 juga perbandingan dari pemberitaan konfrontasi di Koran Suluh Indoonesia dan Berita Harian. Fokus penelitian diarahkan pada sejarah berjalannya konfrontasi dan perbandingan antara pemberitaan konfrontasi dari kedua koran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode historis. Data-data primer dikumpulkan melalui studi kepustakaan Koran Suluh Indonesia dan Berita Harian. Adapun data-data sekunder didapat dari buku, artikel, jurnal, skripsi, dan tesis yang mendukung topik penulisan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode historis dengan pendekatan deskriptif-naratif, yang terdiri atas penentan topik, heuristik, verifikasi, interpretasi, dan historiografi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa konflik itu disebabkan dari penolakan Indonesia atas berdirinya Federasi Malaysia yang berakar dari Pemberontakan Brunei. Pemberitaan konfrontasi dalam Suluh Indonesia dan Berita Harian menunjukan perbedaan dalam liputan berita. Suluh Indonesia menyebut Malaysia sebagai negara boneka Neo-Kolonialisme dan keharusan konfrontasi. Sementara Berita Harian menyebutkan bahwa konfrontasi merupakan siasat Komunis dan juga pengalihan isu atas kegagalan ekonomi di Indonesia. Penelitian ini juga menunjukan naik turunnya hubungan Indonesia dan Malaysia selama berjalannya konfrontasi. **** This research examines the history of the conflict known as the "Confrontation" between Indonesia and Malaysia, which lasted from 1963 to 1966, and compares coverage of the confrontation in the Suluh Indonesia newspaper and Berita Harian. The focus of the research is directed at the history of the confrontation and a comparison of reporting on the confrontation in the two newspapers. This research uses a historical method. Primary data was collected through a literature review of the Suluh Indonesia newspaper and Berita Harian. Secondary data was obtained from books, articles, journals, undergraduate theses, and dissertations that support the topic. The method used in this research is a historical method with a descriptive-narrative approach, consisting of topic determination, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography. The results show that the conflict stemmed from Indonesia's rejection of the establishment of the Federation of Malaysia, which stemmed from the Brunei Rebellion. The coverage of the confrontation in Suluh Indonesia and Berita Harian shows differences in news coverage. Suluh Indonesia labeled Malaysia a puppet state of neo-colonialism and the necessity of confrontation. Meanwhile, Berita Harian stated that the confrontation was a Communist ploy and also a diversion from the issue of economic failure in Indonesia. This research also shows the ups and downs of relations between Indonesia and Malaysia during the confrontation.
