Abstract

Kemampuan berpikir kritis merupakan salah satu kompetensi penting yang harus dimiliki oleh siswa dalam pembelajaran kimia, namun pada beberapa sekolah pembelajaran praktikum di beberapa sekolah masih berorientasi pada prosedur sehingga belum sepenuhnya memfasilitasi siswa untuk mengembangkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh metode praktikum berbasis green chemistry terhadap kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa pada materi hidrolisis garam. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode quasi eksperimen dengan desain pretest-posttest control group design. Sampel penelitian dipilih menggunakan teknik purposive sampling. Instrumen penelitian berupa tes uraian yang terdiri dari 10 soal pretest dan 10 soal posttest yang telah memenuhi kriteria valid dan reliabel. Data dianalisis menggunakan statistik deskriptif, uji N-Gain, uji normalitas, uji homogenitas, dan uji hipotesis menggunakan Mann–Whitney U Test satu pihak (one-tailed). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pretest pada kelas kontrol sebesar 30,28 dan kelas eksperimen sebesar 30,94. Setelah diberikan perlakuan, nilai rata-rata setiap kelas meningkat. Hasil analisis N-Gain menunjukkan bahwa kelas kontrol memperoleh rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,074 (kategori rendah), sedangkan kelas eksperimen memperoleh nilai rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,374 (kategori sedang). Hasil uji hipotesis dengan Mann-Whitney U Test satu pihak (one-tailed) menunjukkan nilai sebesar 0,000 (<0,05). Dengan demikian kemampuan berpikir kritis siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran menggunakan metode praktikum berbasis green chemistry lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan metode praktikum berbasis prosedur. ***** Critical thinking is one of the essential competencies that students should develop in chemistry learning. However, laboratory activities in some schools remain primarily procedure-oriented and have not fully facilitated the development of students' critical thinking skills. This study aimed to determine the effect of green chemistry-based laboratory methods on students' critical thinking skills in learning the topic of salt hydrolysis. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research sample was selected through purposive sampling. The research instrument consisted of essay tests comprising 10 pretest and 10 posttest questions that met the criteria of validity and reliability. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, N-Gain analysis, normality testing, homogeneity testing, and a one-tailed Mann–Whitney U test for hypothesis testing. The results showed that the mean pretest scores were 30.28 for the control class and 30.94 for the experimental class. Following the treatment, the mean scores of both classes increased. The N-Gain analysis indicated that the control class achieved an average N-Gain score of 0.074 (low category), whereas the experimental class obtained an average N-Gain score of 0.374 (moderate category). The one-tailed Mann–Whitney U test yielded a significance value of 0.000 (< 0.05). These findings indicate that students who participated in green chemistry-based laboratory learning demonstrated higher critical thinking skills than those who participated in procedure-based laboratory learning.
