Abstract
***** This study aimed to examine the influence of general trust and online social support on sadfishing tendencies among early adults who actively use social media. Sadfishing refers to the behavior of posting or sharing content that highlights sadness, personal struggles, or negative emotional experiences in order to gain attention, sympathy, or support from others on social media. This study employed a quantitative approach using a survey method involving 224 participants aged 18–40 years. The sampling technique used was convenience sampling. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to examine the influence of the two independent variables on sadfishing tendencies. The results showed that general trust and online social support simultaneously had a significant effect on sadfishing tendencies (p < .001) with a contribution of 40.1%. Partially, general trust had a positive and significant effect on sadfishing tendencies (p < .001), as did online social support, which also showed a positive and significant effect (p < .001). These findings indicate that individuals with higher levels of trust in others and those who perceive greater social support through online interactions tend to exhibit higher sadfishing tendencies on social media.
