Abstract

***** This study aims to examine the effect of the big five personality traits on bedtime procrastination (BP) among young adults. The high prevalence of sleep deprivation in this age group is often driven by self-regulation failures in intentionally delaying sleep. A quantitative correlational survey method was employed for this study. The participants consisted of 316 young adults (aged 18-40 years) selected through a purposive sampling technique. Data were collected using the Bedtime procrastination Scale (BPS) and the Big Five Inventory-2 (BFI-2). Data analysis was conducted using multiple linear regression. The results indicated that, simultaneously, the big five personality traits significantly influence BP. Partially, the conscientiousness dimension exhibited a significant negative effect, while negative emotionality showed a significant positive effect on BP. Conversely, open-mindedness, extraversion, and agreeableness showed no significant impact. The effective contribution of these personality traits to BP was 13.9%, leaving 86.1% influenced by other factors not examined in this study. Keyword: Young Adult, Big Five Personality Trait, Bedtime Procrastination, Sleep Quality.
