Abstract
***** Red cayenne pepper (Capsicum frutescens L.) is a high-value horticultural commodity that is highly sensitive to anomalies in water availability. Conventional manual watering methods are considered inefficient and struggle to provide precise water measurements, often triggering over-irrigation or under-irrigation conditions that risk disrupting the stability of plant growth. This Research and Development (R&D) study using the V-Model method aims to design and build a prototype of an Automatic Drip Irrigation System for Red Cayenne Pepper Based on the Internet of Things (IoT) to optimize water resource utilization. The main control system in this study utilizes an ESP32 microcontroller that integrates a capacitive soil moisture sensor to monitor the growing medium condition, a water flow sensor to measure water volume, and an ultrasonic sensor to monitor water availability in the tank. This system operates autonomously based on a schedule synchronized via server time (NTP). If the soil moisture is detected below 60% and the remaining tank water is above the safety threshold of 20%, the microcontroller will activate the peristaltic pump. The water distribution process stops when the drip volume reaches the target of 400 ml. All monitoring parameters are visualized locally via a 16x2 LCD screen, and monitoring notifications are successfully sent remotely through the Telegram bot application. The instrument testing results show a low error percentage rate, namely 1.85% for the soil moisture sensor, 0.85% for the water flow sensor, and 3.06% for the ultrasonic sensor. The testing results indicate that the system was able to execute automatic watering decisions with a measured watering volume based on the water flow sensor readings, while protecting the actuator from potential damage caused by an empty tank and facilitating remote monitoring for users.
