Abstract

Kemajuan teknologi digital mempermudah interaksi sosial maupun kegiatan pembelajaran melalui kehadiran media sosial. **** Advances in digital technology have facilitated social interaction and learning activities through the use of social media. Despite its benefits, social media use has the potential to lead to social media overload if it exceeds an individual’s capacity to process information effectively, which can ultimately trigger technostress. In this context, self-regulation is thought to play a role as the ability that determines how individuals respond to the pressures they face. The research was conducted with the aim of analyzing the effect of social media overload on technostress among students at SMKN 3 Jakarta, both through direct effects and through the mediating effect of self-regulation. The research applies a quantitative approach with a survey method. A total of 118 students majoring in Office Management were engaged as the research sample with proportionate random sampling technique. The data were obtained by distributing questionnaires and then analyzed using the PLS-SEM method in the SmartPLS 4 application as the data processing, including the analysis of the measurement model, the structural model, and the testing of hypotheses regarding the relationships among variables. The research found that social media overload had no significant effect on technostress (β = -0,155; T = 1,449; P = 0,147), but had a significant negative effect on self-regulation (β = -0,309; T = 3,370; P = 0,001). Furthermore, self-regulation had a significant negative effect on technostress (β = -0,619; T = 8,691; P = 0,000) and was found to fully mediate the positive and significant effect of social media overload on technostress (β = 0,191; T = 2,670; P = 0,008). These findings suggest that the relationship between social media overload and technostress occurs through the role of self-regulation as a mechanism that links these two variables.
