Abstract
***** This study aims to examine the influence of Social Dominance Orientation (SDO) on social tolerance among metropolitan communities in the Greater Jakarta (Jabodetabek) area. This study employed a quantitative approach involving 335 respondents aged 18–40 years residing in Jabodetabek. Data were collected using the SDO7 Scale (Ho et al., 2015) and the Tolerance Scale (Hjerm et al., 2019), and were analyzed using simple linear regression. The results showed that most respondents had low levels of Social Dominance Orientation and high levels of social tolerance. However, Social Dominance Orientation did not have a significant effect on social tolerance. These findings suggest that social tolerance is influenced by factors beyond Social Dominance Orientation, such as prejudice, empathy, the quality of intergroup contact, and collectivistic cultural values. Furthermore, the findings indicate the potential for strong social cohesion and a high level of acceptance of diversity among metropolitan communities in the Greater Jakarta area.
