Abstract
The evaluation was conducted using the Finite Element Method (FEM) through static structural simulation and modal analysis to ensure compliance with the feasibility standards of the Minister of Transportation Regulation No. 49 of 2023. The structural material was evaluated using SS400 structural carbon steel specifications. The static simulation results indicate that structural modifications significantly impact the frame's strength. Design 2 was identified as the most optimal and compliant configuration, yielding a maximum stress of 95 MPa, a deformation of 0.52 mm, and a Safety Factor (SF) of 2.1. This stress value is confirmed to be highly secure as it falls well below the material's yield strength. For comparison, the Base Model produced a stress of 173 MPa (SF 1.4), Design 1 yielded 86 MPa (SF 2.4), and Design 3 resulted in 131 MPa (SF 1.9). Furthermore, the modal analysis results revealed that the critical mode shape of the structure is dominated by roof bending (drumming) phenomena. Design 2 recorded the highest natural frequency at 36.5 Hz, which directly elevated the safe operational speed limit to 197.1 km/h and the critical speed to 262.8 km/h. This dynamic performance surpasses the Base Model (30.8 Hz), Design 1 (30.7 Hz), and Design 3 (22.2 Hz). Overall, the proposed carbody modification design is declared structurally safe, operationally feasible, and entirely compliant with the maximum allowable stress and deformation limits stipulated by railway rolling stock regulations.
