Abstract

***** This study examines the effect of investor sentiment, illiquidity, and stock volatility on the stock returns of non-LQ45 firms on the Indonesia Stock Exchange during the 2021-2025 period, with firm size as a control variable. Using panel data regression on a sample of 375 non-LQ45 stocks selected through purposive sampling from a population of 958 stocks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange, this study yields 22,500 observations over 60 months. The estimation model used is the Fixed Effect Model with White diagonal robust standard errors. The results show that, partially, investor sentiment, illiquidity, and stock volatility have no significant effect on stock returns, with coefficient directions entirely contrary to the hypothesized direction. Simultaneously, these three variables, together with firm size as a control variable, significantly affect stock returns (R²=2.49%). Firm size shows a significant positive effect and is the only variable that remains stable across all tests. A robustness test through winsorizing shows results that are largely consistent, although investor sentiment becomes significant and stock volatility's coefficient shrinks sharply, so both findings should be understood as sensitive to the presence of extreme observations.
