Abstract
Karakterisasi merupakan salah satu elemen penting dalam dunia kesusastraan karena karakterisasi adalah cara untuk mengungkapkan kepribadian tiap tokoh. Dalam penelitian ini, penulis membahas karakterisasi empat tokoh sosialista utama dalam musim pertama serial TV Gossip Girl dengan menggunakan pendekatan psikoanalisis untuk mengetahui pengkarakterisasian tokoh yang membuat tayangan tersebut menjadi lebih menarik. Penulis menggunakan studi deskriptif analitikal interpretatif dengan menganalisis dialog, narasi, dan tindakan yang perlu untuk ditafsirkan. Melalui analisis ini, penulis menemukan bahwa sebagian besar tokoh menggunakan mekanisme pertahanan ego seperti represi dan penyangkalan untuk lari dari masalah dan menenangkan pikiran mereka untuk sementara waktu. Hal ini terjadi karena mereka hanyalah seorang remaja dengan emosi tidak stabil, perilaku mereka cenderung didorong oleh id, jadi mereka cenderung mencari kesenangan pribadi tanpa memikirkan perasaan orang lain. Terlebih lagi, kelakuan tersebut membuat mereka menjadi sering bertengkar. Walaupun demikian, mereka tetap membantu temannya yang membutuhkan mereka. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa superego masih cukup banyak berperan dalam kehidupan mereka; mereka memaafkan dan melupakan kesalahan temannya dan membantu tanpa mempertanyakan alasannya. Selain keempat tokoh ini adalah sosialista – orang yang mendapat sorotan di masyarakat – keempat tokoh ini sudah bersahabat sejak kecil. Jadi, tiap tokoh berperan sebagai confidante karena mereka memperlihatkan siapa mereka sesungguhnya pada ketiga tokoh lainnya. ***** Characterization is one of a vital point in the world of literature since it is the way the creators convincing the audience about the personality of the character, which can be done by using the art of characterization. In this study, the writer discussed the characterization of four major socialite characters in the 1st season of Gossip Girl TV series by using the psychoanalysis approach to find how the characters are characterized in order to make the story become more interesting. In analyzing the data, the writer is using the descriptive interpretative analytical study by analyzing the characters’ dialogues, narrations, and actions which are required to be interpreted. Through the analysis, the writer finds out that most of the characters are using the ego defence mechanism such as repression and denial to avoid their problems and ease their mind for some times. This is happened because they are only a teenager with unstable emotions and their behaviour tends to driven by id, so they tend to seek their own pleasure without thinking the other’s feeling. Moreover, it also makes them fights a lot. But although they are fighting almost all the time, but they really helps each other in need. This proves that their superego still played quite a big role in their lives; they forgive and forget about what the other had done to them and help without questioning the reason. Besides that, each of the four characters is a socialite – the person who gets the attention in the society – they also have been best-friend since their childhood. So, each character is the confidante to the other since they reveal their true self to each other.
