Abstract

Penelitian ini memiliki dua tujuan utama. Pertama untuk mendeskripsikan tanda/kode terkait kontestasi kelas sosial beserta maknanya yang diinterpretasikan pada sebuah film drama Korea berjudul SKY Castle. Kedua, untuk mendeskripsikan representasi kontestasi kelas dalam arena pendidikan pada film drama Korea berjudul SKY Castle. Penelitian ini menggunakan paradigma kritis dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Teknik analisis data yang dipakai adalah analisis wacana kritis dengan pendekatan semiotika Fiske. Objek penelitian ini adalah sebuah film drama Korea berjudul SKY Castle. Film drama ini pertama kali tayang pada tanggal 23 November 2018 sampai dengan 1 Febuari 2019. Peneliti mendapatkan film drama ini dengan cara mengunduh melalui website inidramku.com dan menonton secara streaming melalui aplikasi Viu dan WeTV. Dari sekian banyak gambaran realitas yang direpresentasikan dalam film drama tersebut, peneliti hanya akan fokus pada gambaran mengenai kontestasi kelas dalam arena pendidikan di masyarakat. Gambaran tersebut akan diperoleh dengan mengamati dan memaknai tanda atau kode yang muncul dalam film drama tersebut. Waktu penelitian berlagsung dari bulan Januari sampai dengan Juni tahun 2021. Film drama Korea SKY Castle merepresentasikan bagaimana latar belakang keluarga berpengaruh pada kehidupan siswa sekolah menengah atas yang memiliki keinginan untuk masuk ke universitas paling bergengsi di Korea Selatan. Selain itu film drama ini juga merepresentasikan persaingan yang harus dihadapi siswa-siswa tersebut selama di sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan analisis pada level realitas yang mencakup setting/lokasi, costum & make up, perilaku atau watak tokoh, serta dialog tokoh diantarnya merepresentasikan agen dengan modal dan habitus yang dapat mereka pertukarkan dalam arena kontestasi, serta bagaimana agen membangun strategi untuk dapat bersaing dalam arena kontestasi. Selanjutnya pada level representasi yang mencakup angel camera, music/theme song dan pergerakan kamera, didapatkan gambaran tentang status sosial dan kekuasaan agen dalam arena kontestasi sosial. Terakhir pada level ideologi, didapatkan gambaran ideologi yang berkaitan dengan kontestasi kelas dalam masyarakat seperti kelas sosial dan individualisme. Kontestasi kelas yang digambarkan dalam film drama ini terjadi karena ketatnya ujian masuk ke universitas-universitas ternama di Korea Selatan. Dalam prosesnya ini, agen memanfaatkan modal dan habitus yang telah mereka miliki sebelumnya sebagai bentuk strategi. Mereka bertaruh untuk menambah dan/atau mengurangi modal yang mereka miliki untuk memperkuat posisinya. This research has two main objectives. The first is to describe the signs/codes related to the context of social class and their meanings which are interpreted in a Korean drama film entitled SKY Castle. Second, to describe the representation of class contestation in the educational arena in the Korean drama film SKY Castle. This study uses a critical paradigm with a qualitative approach. The data analysis technique used is critical discourse analysis with Fiske's semiotic approach. The object of this research is a Korean drama film entitled SKY Castle. This drama film first aired on November 23, 2018 until February 1, 2019. Researchers got this drama film by downloading it through the inidramku.com website and watching it streaming through the Viu and WeTV applications. Of the many images of reality that are represented in the drama film, the researcher will only focus on the description of class contestation in the arena of education in the community. The picture will be obtained by observing and interpreting the signs or codes that appear in the drama film. The research time is from January to June 2021. The Korean drama film SKY Castle represents how family background influences the lives of high school students who have the desire to enter the most prestigious university in South Korea. In addition, this drama film also represents the competition that these students have to face while at school. The results of the study show that in the analysis of the reality level which includes setting/location, costume & make-up, behavior or character of the characters, as well as the dialogue of the characters including representing agents with capital and habitus that they can exchange in the contestation arena, as well as how agents develop strategies to be able to compete in the arena contestation. Furthermore, at the level of representation that includes angel cameras, music/theme songs and camera movements, the more we get a picture of the social status and power of agents in the arena of social contestation. Finally, at the ideological level, we get an ideological picture related to class contestation in society such as social class and individualism. The class contestation depicted in this drama film occurs because of the strict entrance exams to top universities in South Korea. In the process, agents use the capital and habitus they already have as a form of strategy. They bet to increase and/or decrease the capital they have to strengthen their position.
