Abstract

Skripsi, Jakarta: English Language Education Study Program, Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. In academic writing, citations are used to countersign theories and reflect evidence. It is important to understand how to properly cite other work as part of the process. This study aims to examine the category used in integral citation and transitivity system of integral citation of three articles on citation practice in Journal of English for Academic Purposes. This study used Thompson and Tribble (2001) framework and transitivity system by Halliday to reach the result. This study is descriptive qualitative. The data for this study is integral citation in three articles from Journal of English for Academic Purposes. A total of 86 integral citations were analyzed to find which categories used the most. Then, 86 integral citations are broken down into 158 clauses to analyze the transitivity system that occurs. The study found all categories of integral citation were used and verb controlling as the most frequent (48), followed by naming (30) and noncitation (8). It’s clear that the experts use verb controlling as their main way to form integral citation. The clauses mostly represented by material process (84), followed by mental (46), relational (21) and verbal (7) were used to realize the Transitivity System. Penting untuk memahami cara mengutip pekerjaan lain dengan benar sebagai bagian dari proses. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji kategori yang digunakan dalam sitasi integral dan sistem transitivitas sitasi integral dari tiga artikel tentang praktik sitasi di Journal of English for Academic Purposes. Penelitian ini menggunakan kerangka kerja Thompson dan Tribble (2001) dan sistem transitivitas Halliday untuk mencapai hasil tersebut. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Data untuk penelitian ini adalah sitasi integral dalam tiga artikel dari Journal of English for Academic Purposes. Sebanyak 86 sitasi integral dianalisis untuk menemukan kategori mana yang paling banyak digunakan. Kemudian, 86 sitasi integral dipecah menjadi 158 klausa untuk menganalisis sistem transitivitas yang terjadi. Studi ini menemukan semua kategori sitasi integral digunakan dan verb controlling sebagai yang paling sering (48), diikuti oleh naming (30) dan non-citation (8). Jelas bahwa para ahli menggunakan pengendalian kata kerja sebagai cara utama mereka untuk membentuk sitasi integral. Klausa sebagian besar diwakili oleh proses material (84), diikuti oleh mental (46), relational (21) dan verbal (7) untuk mewujudkan Sistem Transitivitas.
