Abstract

Maskulinitas adalah sebuah wacana yang mengangkat isu laki-laki hubungannya dengan kontruksi sosial. Chris Barker mengatakan bahwa maskulinitas dibentuk berdasarkan cara kita memanjakan diri dengan mengikuti perkembangan zaman dan kebudayaan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menafsirkan atau merepresentasikan maskulinitas dalam objek novel Ali Topan Anak Jalanan karangan Teguh Esha dengan pendekatan semiotika Roland Barthes. Metode penelitian yang digunakan ialah deskriptif kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan analisis isi menghasilkan data deskriptif berupa kata-kata tertulis atau lisan. Hasil penelitian ini merepresentasikan maskulinitas berdasarkan konsep maskulinitas Beynon dan Brannon, yaitu : gaya hidup, macho, fashion, kekuatan, dan keberanian. Kelima sifat maskulinitas ini dalam novel ATAJ menampilkan konteks sebagai upaya mengkritik Orde Baru periode awal yang dilakukan melalui kisah percintaan serta simbol-simbol budaya populer yang berkembang. Kata kunci : Mitos, Maskulinitas,Semiotika, dan Budaya Populer. Masculinity is a discourse that raises the issue of men related to social construction. Chris Barker said that masculinity is formed based on the way we pamper ourselves by following the times and culture. This study aims to monitor or represent masculinity in the novel Ali Topan Anak Jalanan by Teguh Esha with Roland Barthes' semiotic approach. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection techniques using content analysis produce descriptive data in the form of written or spoken words. The results of this study represent masculinity based on Beynon and Brannon's concept of masculinity, namely: lifestyle, macho, fashion, strength, and courage. These five characteristics of men in ATAJ's novel show the context as an attempt to criticize the early New Order period which was carried out through love stories and symbols of growing popular culture.
