Abstract

Penelitian ini berfokus pada analisis kompleks inferioritas pada karakter wanita yang berasal dari era yang berbeda berdasarkan cerita mereka, yaitu Yunani kuno dan awal abad kedua puluh. Penelitian ini menganalisis kata, kalimat, dan frasa yang dipilih untuk membantu menunjukkan penerapan karakter wanita pada id, ego, superego, mekanisme pertahanan, dan kompleks inferioritas mereka dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif analisis. Teori psikoanalisis dari Sigmund Freud pertama kali digunakan untuk membantu interpretasi keadaan pikiran karakter wanita termasuk mekanisme penanganan stres mereka. Selanjutnya, setelah masalah mereka diinterpretasikan, teori kompleks inferioritas oleh Heidbreder digunakan untuk mengklasifikasikan jenis kompleks inferioritas mereka. Selain itu, penelitian ini juga menginterpretasikan kondisi perempuan di setiap era. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Medea memiliki kecenderungan yang tinggi untuk merasa tidak aman karena pengkhianatan pernikahan, dan dia lebih banyak menggunakan proyeksi sebagai mekanisme pertahanan untuk membalas dendam suaminya. Amanda, di satu sisi, menunjukkan penggunaan identifikasi sebagai pelarian stresnya dari tekanan sosial. Selain itu, inferiority complex juga digambarkan ketika dia merasa tidak aman saat menghadapi seorang pria penelepon. Laura lebih dominan menggunakan rasionalisasi sebagai mekanisme pertahanannya karena tekanan terhadap ekspektasi yang tinggi dalam menarik pria penelepon. Terakhir, dominasi laki-laki dalam masyarakat masih ada di kedua era di mana karakter perempuan ditindas. This study focuses on analysing the inferiority complex of the women characters which come from different era based in their stories, the ancient Greek and the early twentieth century. This study analyses the selected words, sentences, and phrases to help indicate the women characters’ implementation upon their id, ego, superego, defence mechanism, and the inferiority complex by using descriptive analytical method. The psychoanalysis theory from Sigmund Freud is firstly used to help the interpretation of the women characters state of minds including their stress coping mechanism. Furthermore, after their problems are interpreted, the inferiority complex theory by Heidbreder is used to classify their type of inferiority complex. Also, this study is interpreting the women conditions in each era. The results show that Medea is having a high tendency to feel insecure due to the marriage betrayal, and she mostly used projection as defence mechanism to revenge her husband. Amanda, on the one hand, shows the use of identification as her stress escapement from the societal pressure. Also, her inferiority complex is also depicted when she feels insecure upon facing a gentleman caller. Laura dominantly used rationalization as her defence mechanism due to the stress about high expectation in attracting gentleman caller. Lastly, men dominance in society is still exists in both respective eras where the women characters are oppressed.
