Abstract

ABSTRAK Muhammad Iqbal Putra Yudia. Fotografi dan Kritik Sosial di Masyarakat. Skripsi. Jakarta: Program Studi Pendidikan Sosiologi, Fakultas Ilmu Sosial, Universitas Negeri Jakarta, 2022. Kritik sosial hadir di masyarakat karena adanya ketidakpuasan yang dirasakan oleh individu atau kelompok tertentu terhada perubahan sosial yang ada. Fotografi dimanfaatkan sebagai media atau cara untuk menyampaikan kritik sosial oleh fotografer. Penelitian ini secara garis besar mempunyai dua tujuan utama, pertama untuk mendeskripsikan peran fotografi sebagai bagian dari kritik sosial di masyarakat. Kedua, untuk mendeskripsikan penyampaian kritik sosial melalui fotografi agar tepat dan membangun. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif secara deskriptif. Data penelitian diperoleh dengan proses wawancara, dokumentasi, dan studi literatur dengan beberapa informan, yaitu dua orang fotografer professional yang bekerja sebagai fotografer, satu orang fotografer menengah yang menjadikan fotografi sebagai hobi, dan satu orang fotografer amatir, yang dilakukan dari bulan Desember 2021 hingga bulan Januari 2022. Kemudian setelah diperoleh, data tersebut dianalisis dengan menggunakan konsep semiotika komunikasi Charles Sanders Pierce. Berdasarkan pada data yang telah diperoleh dalam penelitian ini, diketahui bahwa kritik sosial melalui fotografi memiliki peran bagi fotografer untuk mengemukakan kritik-kritik sosial melalui karya-karya fotografinya. Dengan memahami cara-cara penyampaian kritik sosial yang sesuai dengan etika kritik, sesuai dengan tema kritik yang disampaikan, dan mengetahui latar belakang permasalahan sosial yang akan dikritik. Selain itu, penyampaian kritik sosial melalui fotografi juga dipahami melalui pemaknaan-pemaknaan yang ada di dalam karya fotografi sebagai tanda yang digunakan untuk menyampaikan kritik sosial. Social criticism exists in society because of dissatisfaction felt by particular individuals or groups with social changes happens. Photography is used as a medium or a tool to convey social criticism by photographers. This research outlined two main objectives. First, this research describes the role of photography as part of social criticism in society. Second, this research describes the conveys of social criticism through photography to be appropriate and constructive. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The data was obtained through interviews, documentation, and literature studies with informants. The informants are two professional photographers, the first one is an intermediate photographer who enjoys photography as a hobby, and another is an amateur photographer who has been doing photography from December 2021 to January 2022. Then after the data was obtained, it was analyzed using the concept of communication semiotics by Charles Sanders Pierce. Based on the data that has been obtained in this research, it is known that social criticism through photography has a role for photographers to express social criticism through their photographic works. That is by understanding the ways of conveying social critics by the appropriate ethics of criticism, the theme of the criticism conveyed, and knowing the background of the social problems that will be criticized. In addition, the conveys of social criticism through photography are also understood through the meanings contained in photographic works as signs used to convey social criticism.
