Abstract

Skripsi ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis gambaran kapitalisme dalam novelThe Hunger Games . Untuk menggambarkan dan menganalisis data yang ditemukan dalam novel, penulis menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif untuk mengungkapkan fakta-fakta dengan inte rpretasi yang sesuai. Dengan menggunakan teori Kritik Marxis dan Postmodernisme. Penulis menemukan bahwa pemerintah yang disebut Capito l diidentifikasi sebagai kapitalis yang sesuai dengan karakteris tik ekonomi kapitalis yaitu false conciousness, rugged individualism, dan commodification . Lalu, novel The Hunger Gamesmenggambarkan penggunaan budaya massa dan hiburan sebagai cara kapitalis untuk menjaga dan mengontrol kekuasaan dengan menggunakan aspek the emergence of simulacrum dan mediation of culture Fredric Jameson. Penulis juga menemukan false conciousness sebagai aspek kapitalisme yang dominan dalam novel ini. Orang-orang yang tingga l di Capitol tidak punya alasan untuk memberontak terhadap pemerintah karena mereka sudah disediakan dengan semua kebutuhan mereka dan memiliki gaya hidup mewah. Namun, orang-orang yang tinggal di districts mendapatkan perlakuan buruk, yang merupakan cara pemerintah untuk mengatakan kepada masyarakat districtsapa yang mereka layak terima karena status mereka hanya sebagai pekerja. This studyattempts to analyze th e portrayal of capitalism in The Hunger Games novel. In order to desc ribe and analyze the data found in the novel, the writer use descriptive analytical method to reveal facts with appropiate interpretation. Using Marxist Criticism and Postmodernism. The writer found that in this novel the government called the Capitol is iden tified as capitalist that presents the characteristics of capitalist economies, which are false consciousness, rugged individualism and commodification. Also by using the waning of affect and mediatization of culture aspects by Fredric Jameson. The Hunger Games portray uses of mass culture and entertai nment as a way for the capitalist system to gain and keep control and power. The writer also found false consciousness is a dominant aspect of capitalism in this novel, because people who live in the Capitol have no reason to rebel against the government because they already provided withall of their necessity and luxury lifesty le. However,The districts poor treatment is the way the government to ld people in the districts what they deserve as their status as workers.
