Abstract

ABSTRAK Adiba Rahma Izzati, 2023. Bentuk-bentuk Coping Stress Mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Skripsi. Jakarta: Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni, Universitas Negeri Jakarta. Ketika mahasiswa menghadapi tuntutan akademik yang dapat menyebabkan stres akademik, dibutuhkan cara untuk menghadapi, mengurangi, dan mengatasi stres tersebut atau disebut sebagai coping stress. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan kondisi stres akademik yang pernah dialami mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Mandarin Universitas Negeri Jakarta (PSPBM UNJ) dan bentuk-bentuk coping stress yang dilakukan mahasiswa PSPBM UNJ dalam menghadapi stres akademik. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan metode wawancara terstruktur.. Responden penelitian adalah mahasiswa tingkat akhir PSPBM UNJ yang telah berhasil menyelesaikan seluruh rangkaian mata kuliah hingga ke semester 7 berjumlah 40 mahasiswa. Peneliti mengacu pada teori tentang tipe stressor menurut Gadzella, teori bentuk-bentuk coping stress menurut Lazarus dan Folkman, serta teori dimensi coping stress menurut Carver, Scheier dan Weintraub dalam menyusun pertanyaan wawancara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa PSPBM UNJ mengalami stres akademik akibat perubahan atau peristiwa yang dapat menyebabkan frustrasi, konflik, tekanan, serta adanya kecenderungan untuk memaksakan diri dalam menghadapi permasalahan akademik. Mahasiswa PSPBM UNJ melakukan coping stress bentuk problem-focused coping, emotional-focused coping atau menggabungkan keduanya dalam menghadapi stres akademik. Diharapkan penelitian ini dapat berguna untuk membantu mahasiswa yang sedang mempelajari bahasa Mandarin agar dapat menghadapi stres akademik. When students face academic demands that can cause academic stress, ways are needed to deal with, reduce, and overcome this stress or are referred to as coping stress. The purpose of this study was to describe the conditions of academic stress experienced by Departement of Chinese Language Education Jakarta State University (PSPBM UNJ) students and the forms of coping stress used by PSPBM UNJ students in dealing with academic stress. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using structured interview methods. The research respondents were final year students of PSPBM UNJ who had successfully completed all courses up to semester 7, totaling 40 students. The researcher referred to Gadzella's theory of stressor types, Lazarus and Folkman's theory of forms of coping stress, and Carver, Scheier and Weintraub's theory of coping stress dimensions in compiling interview questions. The results of the research show that PSPBM UNJ students experience academic stress due to changes or events that can cause frustration, conflict, pressure, and a tendency to force themselves to deal with academic problems. PSPBM UNJ students cope with stress in the form of problem-focused coping, emotional-focused coping or combining the two in dealing with academic stress. Hoped this research can be useful in helping students who are studying Mandarin to be able to deal with academic stress.
