Abstract

*** This research aims to analyze the impact of learning loss on 11th-grade Social Studies students concerning the implementation of natural disaster simulation during the COVID-19 pandemic at Senior High School 60 Jakarta, an area prone to natural disasters such as floods and earthquakes. Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 4/2020 emphasizes that all activities, including learning, must be conducted from home to prevent the spread of the virus in schools. The research methodology employed is qualitative, utilizing a case study approach. The subjects include two geography teachers, eight students who received disaster simulation material during the COVID-19 pandemic, and six students who received disaster simulation material post-COVID-19 pandemic. The results indicate that disaster simulation plays a crucial role in enhancing students' preparedness for natural disasters. However, the implementation of disaster simulation faced challenges during the pandemic, as online learning only provided theoretical knowledge of disaster simulation through digital platforms. The study reveals that students not directly involved in disaster simulation exhibit lower academic skills, particularly in understanding disaster concepts. Differences in the execution of disaster simulation between in-person and online learning highlight technical challenges, especially concerning network/signal availability in online learning. Post-pandemic, these challenges diminish, allowing for more effective disaster simulation implementation. In conclusion, disaster simulation plays a pivotal role in addressing learning loss and improving students' preparedness for natural disasters. Strengthening the integration of disaster simulation in geography education is essential, considering technical constraints during online learning and leveraging post-pandemic opportunities to enhance the effectiveness of disaster simulation in the future.
