Abstract

Skripsi ini membahas mengenai dualisme citra diri yang terdapat pada novel Kerumunan Terakhir. Dilatarbelakangi karya sastra sebagai cerminan masyarakat yang dibuat dengan kesan nyata, namun masih terdapat unsur dari pengarang. Kerumunan Terakhir mencerminkan masyarakat modern yang tidak terlepas dari teknologi. Media sosial sebagai teknologi yang mewadahi kebebasan individu dengan citra diri yang tidak sesuai dengan kehidupan nyata. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode Critical Discourse Analysis. Objek penelitian adalah novel Kerumunan Terakhir yang terbit tahun 2016, dilaksanakan dari Februari 2023 sampai dengan Desember 2023. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan studi kepustakaan, dengan teknik analisis data menggunakan Critical Discourse Analysis dari Norman Fairclough. Teknik ini digunakan untuk melihat wacana dalam bentuk teks, diinterpretasikan ke dalam praktik diskursif dan melihat kesesuaian dalam konteks sosial serta ideologi yang ingin disampaikan pengarang dalam wacana, dalam konteks penelitian ini adalah novel. Penelitian ini bertumpu kepada konsep media sosial, masyarakat jaringan, dan identitas yang dibahas oleh Manuel Castell. Berdasarkan temuan penelitian, terjadinya dualisme citra diri netizen yang digambarkan ketika di media sosial dan di luar media sosial. Hasil dari penelitian, setiap tokoh mengalami pertentangan citra diri yang timbul di media sosial yang diakibatkan oleh dominasi institusi yaitu keluarga dan masyarakat. Menimbulkan citra diri yang sesuai dengan masyarakat, sehingga mendapatkan gratifikasi instan yang mengakibatkan dampak positif dan negatif. Media sosial sebagai wadah kebebasan berekspresi untuk melawan dominasi institusi serta wadah menjadi diri sendiri. Ideologi yang disampaikan pengarang bahwa media sosial memengaruhi kehidupan seseorang sehingga tidak menjadikan media sosial sebagai suatu hal yang utama, kritik terhadap nilai-nilai masyarakat modern, kekuasaan menyebar di dunia nyata dan di dunia maya. **** This thesis discussed the dualism of self-image found in the novel Kerumunan Terakhir. Literary works are a reflection of society created with a real impression, but there are still elements of the author in the background. Social media is portrayed as a technology that embodies the freedom of individuals with self-images that do not correspond to real life. This research used a qualitative approach with the Critical Discourse Analysis method and the object of the research is the novel Kerumunan Terakhir published in 2016. This research was conducted from February 2023 to December 2023. Data collection was carried out by literature study, with data analysis techniques using Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis. This technique is used to see discourse in text form, interpret it into discursive practice and see its suitability in the social context and ideology that the author wants to convey in the discourse. This research focused on the concepts of social media, network society and identity discussed by Manuel Castell. Based on research findings, the occurrence of dualism in the self-image of netizens is depicted both on social media and offline. The results of the study reveal that each individual experiences conflicts in self-image arising on social media, resulting from the dominance of institutions such as family and society. This leads to the formation of a self-image that aligns with societal expectations, seeking instant gratification with both positive and negative consequences. Social media serves as a platform for freedom of expression to resist institutional dominance and to be one's authentic self. The author conveys the ideology that social media influences an individual's life, emphasizing the importance of not prioritizing it as a central aspect. There is criticism directed towards the values of modern society, highlighting the power dynamics that extend into both the real and virtual realms.
