Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan penerapan metode suku kata atau syllabic method pada pembelajaran membaca permulaan siswa tunagrahita ringan di kelas 5 SLB Negeri 11 Jakarta. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif atau qualitative research dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Penelitian ini bermaksud untuk menggali secara lebih mendalam mengenai pelaksanaan pembelajaran membaca permulaan menggunakan metode suku kata ‘’syllabic method’’ meliputi kegiatan perencanaan, pelaksanaan, serta evaluasi. Berdasarkan fenomena dilapangan, ditemukan siswa tunagrahita ringan yang mampu membaca secara lancar. Pernyataan ini sangatlah berbanding terbalik bersamaan dengan kajian literatur yang dikemukakan oleh Diagnostic And Statistical Manual Of Mental Disorders Fifth Edition (DSM-5) mengenai keterlambatan pada bidang akademik yang dimiliki siswa tunagrahita serta stigma yang beranggapan memandang siswa tunagrahita mengalami keterlambatan pada aspek akademik dan perilaku adaptif. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian penerapan pembelajaran membaca menggunakan metode suku kata dapat mengoptimalkan pembelajaran membaca permulaan siswa tunagrahita ringan. Dengan penerapan metode suku kata pada pembelajaran membaca permulaan menggunakan model penbelajaran berbasis permainan GBL (Game Based Learning) menggunakan media berupa kartu kata dapat menjadi metode pengajaran yang tepat untuk menunjang guru dalam mengajarkan pembelajaran membaca untuk siswa tunagrahita ringan dikelas. ***** This study aims to describe the application of the syllabic method in pre-learning reading for mild intelectuall disability student in grade 5 of SLB Negeri 11 Jakarta. This research uses a qualitative research approach with descriptive research type. This research intends to explore in more depth the implementation in learning to read beginning using the syllabic method including planning, implementation, and evaluation activities. Based on the fenomena, it was found that mild intellectual disability student was able to read fluently. This statement is contradictive with the theory and stigma has long been attached to the environment that mild intelectuall disability student have delayed in developmental aspect, especially in academic ability. This improvement progress have been seen in reading ability of mild intelectuall disability student. Based on the results of the research, the application of reading learning using the syllable method can optimize the learning of beginning reading of mild intelectuall disability student it is known that the application of reading learning using the syllable method can optimize the learning of beginning reading for mild intelectuall student with the application of the syllable method in early reading learning using the game-based learning model GBL (Game Based Learning) using media in the form of word cards can be the right teaching method to support teachers in teaching reading learning for students with mild intelectualll disability in the classroom.
