Abstract

Kepercayaan diri memiliki peran penting dalam kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa karena kepercayaan diri membantu mengurangi rasa takut dan cemas saat berbicara dalam Bahasa Inggris, sehingga memungkinkan siswa untuk berbicara dengan lancar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kepercayaan diri terhadap kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa. Metode penelitian menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif asosiatif dan pengambilan data pada bulan Mei 2024. Penelitian dilakukan dengan tes berbicara Bahasa Inggris dan menyebar kuesioner menggunakan Google Form. Sampel penelitian dipilih menggunakan teknik sampel jenuh dengan mengambil seluruh jumlah populasi sebanyak 70 siswa yang terdiri dari kelas XI Perhotelan 1 dan XI Perhotelan 2. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kepercayaan diri siswa masuk pada kategori sedang dan kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa masuk pada kategori baik. Hasil uji regresi dalam penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa kepercayaan diri berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris siswa dengan p-value sebesar 0,002<0,05. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa semakin tinggi rasa kepercayaan diri siswa maka semakin baik pula kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggrisnya dan sebaliknya jika rasa kepercayaan diri siswa rendah maka semakin buruk kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggrisnya. ***** Self-confidence has an important role in a student's English speaking ability as self-confidence helps reduce fear and anxiety when speaking in English, thus allowing students to speak fluently. This study aims to determine the influence of self-confidence on students' English speaking ability. The research method uses an associative quantitative approach and data collection in May 2024. The research was conducted by speaking English and distributing questionnaires using Google Forms. The research sample was selected using the saturated sample technique by taking the entire population of 70 students consisting of classes XI Hospitality 1 and XI Hospitality 2. This study shows that students' self-confidence is in the medium category and students' English speaking ability is in the good category. The results of the regression test in this study showed that self-confidence had a positive and significant effect on students' English speaking ability with a p-value of 0.002<0.05. This study shows that the higher the student's self-confidence, the better their English speaking ability and vice versa, if the student's self-confidence is low, the worse their English speaking ability will be.
