Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri sejarah dan makna motif pada Ulos Sadum. Subjek penelitian adalah orang yang paham dan mengetahui tentang Ulos Sadum. Metode penelitian menggunakan metode kualitatif dengan pendekatan deskriptif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan wawancara, observasi dan dokumentasi pada subjek penelitian yaitu panelis ahli yang memahami dan menguasai kain Ulos Sadum. Dari data yang telah terkumpul dianlisis kemudian ditarik kesimpulan untuk memperoleh data yang valid, dilakukan uji keabsahan data dengan metode triangulasi sumber dan triangulasi teori. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sejarah Ulos Sadum sudah ada sejak budaya Batak Toba terbentuk dan memiliki budaya sendiri, karena Ulos Sadum merupakan modal budaya Batak Toba. Terdapat 27 motif Ulos Sadum, dan setiap motif Ulos Sadum memiliki makna simbolik tentang simbol atau kehidupan wanita batak itu sendiri. Kata Kunci : Ulos Sadum, Sejarah, motif-motif, makna simbolik ***** Thisresearch aimsto trace the history, motifs of Ulos Sadum, and symbolic meaning of Ulos Sadum. The research subjects are people who understand and know about Ulos Sadum. The research method uses a case study with a descriptive qualitative approach with qualitative descriptive analysis techniques. Data collection was carried out by conducting interviews with research subjects, namely expert panelists who understand and master the Ulos Sadum fabric. From the data that has been collected, it is analyzed and then conclusions are drawn to obtain valid data. Data validity is tested using the source triangulation, theory triangulation and member check methods. The research resultsshow that the history of Ulos Sadum has existed since the Toba Batak culture was formed and has its own culture, because Ulos Sadum is the cultural capital of the Toba Batak. There are 27 Ulos Sadum motifs, and each Ulos Sadum motif has a symbolic meaning regarding the symbol or life of the Batak woman herself.
