Abstract

********** This research is an experimental research with a Quasi Experiment design in the form of a Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design and involves two variables, namely the independent variable, namely the group investigation type cooperative learning model and the dependent variable of students' understanding of social studies concepts. The population in this study were all elementary schools in Pulo Gadung District. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling technique. The sample in this study consisted of 60 students consisting of 30 students for the experimental class and 30 students for the control class. The instrument used is a test of understanding social science concepts which consists of 9 description questions. The results of data analysis show that the average score for understanding social studies concepts for experimental class students is 29.5 and the average score for understanding social studies concepts for control class students is 23.4. The results of the hypothesis test used the t test, with a tcount of 3.455 and a ttable of 1.671 at a significance level of α= 0.05 and dk=58. The value tcount > ttable can be assumed to mean that the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. Thus, it can be concluded that in this research there is a significant influence from the use of the Group Investigation type cooperative learning model on the understanding of social studies concepts for fourth grade elementary school students.
