Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memahami keberlanjutan pedagang konvensional di tengah maraknya perkembangan online shop di Pasar Tanah Abang dan untuk mengetahui strategi yang diterapkan oleh pedagang konvensional dalam menghadapi perkembangan online shop. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif, dengan analisis studi 6 pedagang pakaian di Pasar Tanah Abang. Penelitian dilaksanakan pada bulan November 2023. Pengumpulan data dilakukan peneliti melalui observasi di lokasi penelitian, wawancara mendalam dengan para narasumber, serta dokumentasi yang diperoleh secara langsung maupun dari informan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori modal sosial yang dikemukakan oleh Robert D. Putnam. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pedagang konvensional di Pasar Tanah Abang menghadapi dampak yang signifikan dari maraknya toko online. Perubahan perilaku konsumen menuju belanja online telah menyebabkan penurunan pengunjung pasar fisik dan penurunan omset. Hasil analisis penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pedagang konvensional di Pasar Tanah Abang memiliki strategi untuk bertahan ditengah perkembangan online shop, berkat keberadaan modal sosial yang kuat. (1) Norma sosial yang telah terbentuk di beberapa kawasan untuk hanya menjual barang grosir. (2) Kepercayaan yang dibangun dari konsistensi kualitas produk dan pelayanan, telah menjadi pondasi penting dalam mempertahankan loyalitas pelanggan. (3) Jaringan sosial yang luas memungkinkan pedagang untuk memperluas pasar, berbagi informasi, dan saling mendukung, yang secara keseluruhan meningkatkan daya saing dan dinamika pasar. Kekuatan strategi modal sosial yang dimiliki oleh pedagang Pasar Tanah Abang adalah faktor utama keberlanjutan yang memungkinkan pasar ini tetap berdaya saing di era digital. Kata kunci: Pedagang konvensional, pasar Tanah Abang, online shop, tantangan persaingan ***** This research aims to understand the sustainability of conventional traders amidst the rapid development of online shops in Tanah Abang Market and to identify the strategies employed by conventional traders in dealing with the rise of online shops. A descriptive qualitative research method was used, with an analysis focusing on six clothing traders in Tanah Abang Market. The research was conducted in November 2023. Data collection was carried out through on-site observations, in-depth interviews with key informants, and documentation gathered directly or from other sources. The study employs Robert D. Putnam's social capital theory as its theoretical framework. The results indicate that conventional traders in Tanah Abang Market face significant impacts due to the proliferation of online stores. Consumer behavior has shifted towards online shopping, resulting in decreased foot traffic and reduced sales revenue in the physical market. The analysis reveals that conventional traders in Tanah Abang Market have developed strategies to sustain themselves amidst the growth of online shops, thanks to their strong social capital. (1) Established social norms in certain areas restrict trading to wholesale goods only. (2) Trust built on consistent product quality and service has been a crucial foundation for maintaining customer loyalty. (3) A broad social network enables traders to expand their market reach, share information, and provide mutual support, collectively enhancing market competitiveness and dynamics. The strength of the social capital strategies possessed by Tanah Abang Market traders is the primary factor for their sustainability, allowing the market to remain competitive in the digital era.
