Abstract

The study is proposed to develop English syllabus for Syariah Law Study Program based on Malaysian Qualification Framework at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Syariah Aisyah Bogor. Research and Development is used as the methodology of this research. The study has four stages: need analysis, objective, testing, and materials. The data were analyzed using a table analysis of Malaysian Qualification Framework and table analysis of the existing English syllabus. The result of the study showed the existing English syllabus is entirely irrelevant for the English syllabus for Syariah Law Study Program based on Malaysian Qualification Framework at Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Syariah Aisyah Bogor. The English syllabus for Syariah Law Study Program used some contents provided by Malaysian Qualification Framework as well as focused on Syariah Law field by implementing reading skills as the main skill and activities to improve students’ competency in reading skills. There is no standard of English proficiency at STIS Aisyah because English course only takes two credits and it is as MKDU (Mata Kuliah Dasar Umum) meanwhile in MQF 550 for TOEFL. The developed English syllabus for Syariah Law Study Program has used a linear syllabus as a form or syllabus outline. A Content-based syllabus and skill-based syllabus are the appropriate types of syllabus used in this study. Besides, the developed English syllabus used four syllabus components: objective, learning material, teaching-learning activities, and assessment. The course description is added to make the developed English syllabus clear and comprehensive. In addition, references are also added as a part of syllabus components, and it is optional. Learning materials of English syllabus are textbooks, an article journal, an article text, a chapter book. The main teaching-learning activities of English syllabus are discussion and lecturing. Then, three kinds of assessments used in the developed English syllabus: written assessment, mid-term assessment and final examination. The expert judgment from State University of Jakarta (UNJ) validated the proposed English syllabus for Syariah Law Study Program at STIS Aisyah using table validation.
