Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan antara self confidence dengan speaking skill siswa kelas V Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Kelurahan Kebon Jeruk. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kuantitatif dengan metode korelasional. Populasi dalam penelitian ini yaitu sebanyak 90 siswa kelas V dengan sekolah yang diambil menggunakan teknik purposive sampling berdasarkan kriteria yang memenuhi. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari kuesioner self confidence yang berbentuk skala likert dan speaking test berupa responsive test menggunakan analytic rubrik penilaian menggunakand skala TSE (The Test of Spoken English) dengan 5 kriteria menggunakan dua penilai (guru dan peneliti). Data pada kedua variabel tersebut dianalisis mengguanakan uji korelasi Pearson untuk melihat hubungan antar dau variabel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara self confidence dengan speaking skill dengan nilai koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,408 dan nilai signifikansi sebesar 0,000 yang berarti jika self confidence mengalami peningkatan, akan diikuti oleh variabel speaking skill. Ditemukan pengaruh self confidence sebesar 16,6% dan terdapat faktor lain sebesar 83,4%. Kemudian berdasarkan hasil perhitungan yang dilakukan, tingkat self confidence siswa kelas V SD sudah termasuk ke dalam kategori sedang yaitu sebanyak 60 siswa (66,7%) , begitu juga dengan speaking skill yang termasuk dalam kategori sedang sebanyak 59 siswa (65,6%). Aspek speaking skill yang paling dominan yakni pada pronunciation dan comprehension masing-masing sebesar 23,81%. Kata Kunci: self confidence, speaking skill, siswa sekolah dasar ******* This study aims to examine the relationship between self-confidence and the speaking skills of fifth-grade students at public elementary schools in Kebon Jeruk Subdistrict. The research employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method. The population consists of 90 fifth-grade students, selected through purposive sampling based on predetermined criteria. The instruments used in this study include a self-confidence questionnaire in the form of a Likert scale and a responsive speaking test assessed with an analytic rubric adapted from the Test of Spoken English (TSE), covering five criteria and involving two raters (a teacher and the researcher). The data from both variables were analyzed using Pearson’s correlation test to determine the relationship between the two variables. The results show a positive and significant correlation between self-confidence and speaking skills, with a correlation coefficient of 0.408 and a significance value of 0.000. This indicates that an increase in self-confidence is followed by an improvement in speaking skills. The influence of self-confidence on speaking skills was found to be 16.6%, while other factors contributed 83.4%. Furthermore, the calculation results show that the students' self-confidence levels are mostly in the moderate category, with 60 students (66.7%) classified as such, and the speaking skills of 59 students (65.6%) also fall into the moderate category. The most dominant aspects of speaking skills are pronunciation and comprehension, each contributing 23.81%.. Keywords: self confidence, speaking skill, elementary school students
