Abstract

Kata kunci: model Brain Based Learning, soal open ended, kemampuan berpikir kritis matematis ***** This study aims to determine the effect of applying the Brain Based Learning (BBL) model based on open ended questions on students' mathematical critical thinking skills. The method used is quasi experiment with post test only control group design. The sampling technique in this study was cluster random sampling. The samples used in this study were students of class VIII-4, which was the experimental class, and VIII-2, which was the control class. Mathematical critical thinking ability is measured by a test instrument consisting of 5 description questions on the material of the chance that has been valid and reliable. The results of data analysis testing after treatment using t-test with a significance level of α = 0,05 showed t_hitung ≥ t_tabel with a value of t hitung=3,556 and t tabel =1,661. Then H_0 is rejected, meaning that the average mathematical critical thinking ability of students in the experimental class is higher than students in the control class. The Cohen's effect size value obtained is 0,726 with a percentage of 76% which is included in the large category. Based on the results of the study, it is concluded that there is an effect of the Brain Based Learning (BBL) model based on open ended questions on the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students. Keywords: Brain Based Learning model, open ended questions, mathematical critical thinking skills.
