Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan peran kepala sekolah sebagai supervisor, leader, dan motivator dalam meningkatkan kompetensi guru di SMP Islam Al Azhar 3 Bintaro. Kompetensi guru yang dimaksud meliputi kompetensi pedagogik, profesional, kepribadian, dan sosial. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode deskriptif, dan data diperoleh melalui wawancara mendalam, observasi partisipatif, serta studi dokumentasi. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari kepala sekolah, wakil kepala sekolah, dan guru tetap yang telah mengikuti program pembinaan dan supervisi di sekolah. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kepala sekolah berperan aktif sebagai supervisor dengan melakukan pembinaan akademik, supervisi kelas, dan evaluasi proses pembelajaran; sebagai leader dengan mengarahkan visi sekolah, menciptakan budaya kerja kolaboratif, dan mengambil kebijakan strategis; serta sebagai motivator dengan memberikan dukungan moral, penghargaan, serta menciptakan iklim kerja yang positif dan partisipatif. Peran kepala sekolah dalam ketiga dimensi tersebut terbukti memberikan pengaruh signifikan terhadap peningkatan kompetensi guru. Penelitian ini memberikan kontribusi teoretis dan praktis dalam memperkuat kepemimpinan transformatif kepala sekolah dalam konteks pendidikan menengah. ***** This study aims to describe the role of the principal as a supervisor, leader, and motivator in improving teacher competence at SMP Islam Al Azhar 3 Bintaro. Teacher competence includes pedagogical, professional, personal, and social aspects. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. The research subjects included the school principal, vice principal, and permanent teachers who had participated in school-based coaching and supervision programs. The findings indicate that the principal plays an active role as a supervisor through academic guidance, classroom supervision, and teaching evaluations; as a leader by directing the school’s vision, fostering a collaborative work culture, and making strategic decisions; and as a motivator by offering moral support, recognition, and creating a positive, participatory work environment. These three leadership roles were found to have a significant impact on enhancing teacher competence. The study contributes both theoretically and practically to strengthening transformative school leadership in the context of secondary education.
